Handicap Corner

Print
Over the past few months, our pro shop staff collected over 600 scorecards – which were forwarded to the USGA for statistical hole-by-hole analysis. The results were returned to us, and we have revised the handicap allocations in accordance with guidelines set forth by the USGA. There were some significant changes! New scorecards are currently being printed, so the revised handicap shot allocations will be reflected on the new cards. We will post a sign in the clubhouse when the new cards are in to remind you to check the new handicap allocations!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with handicap allocations – they work quite simply. Each hole has a handicap allocation ranking from 1 to 18. In a match, the variances in players’ handicaps are compared and “handicap shots” are provided on the designated holes in accordance with the allocation on the scorecard. For example: If a 12-handicap player is in a match with a 17-handicap player, then the 17 handicap player receives 5 shots – on the holes designated #1 through #5 on the handicap allocation area of the scorecard. It’s that easy!

Watch this space for more information about handicaps and how they are used to make matches fair between players of different ability levels.
